Wed Oct 22 22:53:52 UTC 2025: Headline: IndiGo Flight Diverted to Varanasi After Suspected Fuel Leak

New Delhi, October 23, 2025 (The Hindu) – An IndiGo flight en route from Kolkata to Srinagar made an emergency landing at Varanasi’s Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport on Wednesday evening after a possible fuel leak was detected.

Flight 6E-6961, carrying 166 passengers, was diverted after the pilot, according to the Gomti Zone Police, identified a fuel leakage while in flight. Sources initially suggested the alarm may have been triggered by a malfunctioning sensor, leading to the precautionary landing.

The pilot contacted Varanasi Air Traffic Control (ATC) and requested permission for an emergency landing. The aircraft landed safely at 4:10 pm local time, and all passengers were safely disembarked and escorted to the arrival hall.

An IndiGo statement confirmed the precautionary landing due to a “suspected technical issue.” The airline stated that the Airbus A320neo aircraft has been grounded for inspection and repair. An alternative aircraft has been arranged to continue the passengers’ journey to Srinagar.

Authorities have stated that the situation is under control and the aircraft is currently undergoing a thorough technical examination.
