LA Cinema Offers Free Movie Tickets for Bald Heads (or Soon-To-Be Ones) in Tribute to Emma Stone Film

Los Angeles, CA – October 19, 2024 – Calling all Yorgos Lanthimos fans and adventurous filmgoers! In a bold move inspired by Emma Stone’s character in the upcoming film Bugonia, The Culver Theater in Los Angeles is offering a truly unique cinematic experience: a free advanced screening in exchange for a shaved head.

The offer pays homage to Stone’s character in Bugonia, a pharmaceutical CEO kidnapped by conspiracy theorists who believe she is an alien and shave her head as part of their plot.

On Monday, October 20th, those who are already bald or willing to undergo a complete shave in the theater foyer can attend the special screening free of charge. A barber will be on-site from 6 pm onward to facilitate the head-shaving festivities.

The theater has noted that the event, in part, will be filmed. Participants must be 18 years or older and RSVP beforehand due to limited availability.

Bugonia marks the latest collaboration between Lanthimos and Stone, following critically acclaimed films like The Favourite, Poor Things, and Kinds of Kindness. The film has already generated buzz after festival screenings, with Stone herself praising the liberating experience of shaving her head, comparing it to her mother’s experience with hair loss due to cancer treatment.

The event comes with increased sensitivity around jokes involving baldness, after the infamous incident at the 2022 Oscars, when a joke about Jada Pinkett-Smith’s bald head, caused by alopecia, led to Will Smith slapping Chris Rock onstage.

Bugonia, rated R in the US, will be released in select theaters on October 24th, with a general release following on October 31st. It will also be released in Australia on October 30th and in the UK on October 31st.
