Thu Oct 23 00:40:00 UTC 2025: Gayle King Selfie with Jesse Watters Sparks Outrage Among Liberals

NEW YORK – CBS Mornings co-host Gayle King is facing backlash from liberals online after posting a selfie with Fox News personality Jesse Watters on Monday. King shared the photo on Instagram, joking about the unlikely seating arrangement that placed the “TV people from competing networks” together on a four-hour flight.

“Speaking for @jessewatters here: A good time was had by all! Hi, Jesse … saving your number!” King wrote in the caption.

However, the lighthearted post didn’t sit well with many on social media, who accused King of being “tone-deaf” and lacking principles for associating with Watters. Some even referenced Watters’ past controversies and his network’s perceived biases.

“Gayle this is NOT IT,” one user fumed on Bluesky. Rapper Talib Kweli echoed the sentiment, stating, “Nah Gayle this ain’t it.”

The controversy comes at a sensitive time for King, whose future at CBS News has been the subject of speculation since the arrival of new CBS News chief Bari Weiss. Weiss is reportedly planning to overhaul the network’s news operation, raising concerns about potential shake-ups involving high-profile anchors like King and Norah O’Donnell.

King’s contract, estimated to be worth between $13 million and $15 million annually, is set to expire in May. Some insiders believe Weiss could reshuffle the morning and evening lineups, potentially impacting King’s role at the network.

The shared photo also brought back memories of a 2019 incident in which Watters mistakenly identified King as “Good Morning America” anchor Robin Roberts. Watters later apologized on air for the error.

CBS News and Fox News have been contacted for comment.
