LOS ANGELES (AP) — As Netflix prepares to drop the second season of “Nobody Wants This” on Thursday, cast members Adam Brody and Kristen Bell are reflecting on the show’s success and the controversies it stirred. The series, loosely based on creator Erin Foster’s conversion to Judaism, follows the relationship between a rabbi (Brody) and an agnostic woman (Bell).
Season one became a global sensation, racking up millions of views, but also faced criticism for potentially reinforcing antisemitic stereotypes. Some viewers took issue with the depiction of Jewish female characters, seeing them as negative counterparts to the non-Jewish protagonist.
Rabbi Elan Babchuck initially found the show uncomfortable, citing concerns about how Judaism was portrayed. However, after watching the entire season, he revised his opinion, stating, “I celebrate the show. I think representation matters across the board, even when it’s in flawed form.”
