Washington, D.C. – The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is urging consumers nationwide to avoid consuming, selling, or serving specific eggs from Black Sheep Egg Company due to a potential Salmonella contamination. The warning follows a voluntary recall initiated in late September, impacting over 6 million eggs produced by the Arkansas-based company.
Black Sheep Egg Company distributed the recalled eggs to companies in Arkansas, Missouri and Texas between July 9 and September 17, 2025. These companies may have repackaged the eggs under different labels. One such company, Kenz Henz of Santa Fe, Texas, issued its own recall of 12-count packages of Grade AA Large Pasture Raised Eggs, received from Black Sheep Egg Company, on Oct. 16, 2025.
Recalled Products:
- Black Sheep Egg Company: 12-count and 18-count cartons of Free Range Large Grade A Brown Eggs with “best by” dates from Aug. 22, 2025 through Oct. 31, 2025, and UPC codes 860010568507 and 860010568538.
- Kenz Henz: 12-count cartons of Grade AA Large Pasture Raised Eggs, sold in retail stores across Houston, Texas, marked with UPC code 86949400030, Julian dates of 241 (Aug 30) to 244 (Sep 2) and 246 (Sep 4) to 247 (Sep5), and best by dates between Oct. 11-14, 2025, and Oct. 16-17, 2025.
The FDA initiated the recall after inspecting Black Sheep Egg Company’s processing facility and finding 40 environmental samples positive for Salmonella, including strains known to cause human illness. While the FDA has not confirmed any outbreaks linked to the recalled products, the agency is urging caution.
Salmonella infection can cause symptoms such as abdominal pain, fever, headache, watery diarrhea (possibly with blood or mucus), loss of appetite, nausea, and vomiting. Symptoms typically appear 6 hours to 6 days after infection. Children under 5, adults 65 and older, and individuals with weakened immune systems are at higher risk of severe illness.
Consumers, restaurants, and retailers are advised to check their refrigerators for the recalled eggs and either dispose of them immediately or return them to the place of purchase for a full refund. All surfaces, utensils, and containers that may have come into contact with the eggs should be thoroughly cleaned and sanitized.
Kenz Henz customers can return the eggs to the place of purchase for a full refund or contact the company at (409) 457-5934, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The FDA will continue to track the distribution network and provide updates as needed.
