Wed Oct 22 10:00:00 UTC 2025: Healy Ruled Out, McGrath to Captain Australia Against England
London, UK – October 22, 2025 Alyssa Healy, Australia’s captain and star wicketkeeper-batter, will miss today’s crucial World Cup match against England due to a calf injury. Healy sustained the minor strain during training and is also doubtful for Australia’s final group stage game against South Africa.
Tahlia McGrath will step in as captain for the match, with Beth Mooney taking over wicketkeeping duties. Georgia Voll is expected to open the batting in Healy’s absence.
“Really unfortunate there for Midge (Healy) with just a slight calf strain, but we know we’ve got some options,” said Australia head coach Shelley Nitschke, adding that they are hopeful Healy will recover in time for the semi-finals.
Former England captain Nasser Hussain commented on the injury, stating, “It is a blow [for Australia] because it’s Alyssa Healy… It is slightly better that it [injury] happens now before a semi-final or a final.”
England, who are also through to the semi-finals, are looking to build on their recent victory against India. They also beat Australia in a warm-up match last month. “We know it’s a great challenge but it’s a great time to play them after a good win the other day,” said England’s Amy Jones.
The highly anticipated clash between England and Australia can be watched live on Sky Sports Cricket from 10am today (10.30am first ball).
