Tiruchi, October 22, 2025 – The National Institute of Technology – Tiruchi (NIT-T) has received the prestigious Institutional Award from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) for its significant contribution to promoting standardization and confirmative assessment within higher education. The award was presented during the World Standards Day 2025 celebration held at the National Institute of Training for Standardization in Noida on October 14th.
B. L. Verma, Minister of State for Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution and Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, presented the award to BIS Chair Professor K. Muthukkumaran, head, Department of Civil Engineering, representing NIT-T.
The recognition highlights the success of NIT-T’s ‘Standardization and Confirmative Assessment’ course, which was lauded as one of the best integrated programs among over 200 BIS-MoU institutes across the country. The award acknowledges the institute’s commitment to fostering a culture of quality and adherence to standards within its academic curriculum.
Adding to the institute’s accolades, two NIT-T faculty members, S. Velmathi from the Department of Chemistry, and Keerti Manisha from the Department of Architecture, were also recognized for their outstanding contributions. They received BIS Best Write-up Awards for their articles on standards-related themes. Velmathi’s article focused on “Advancing Rapid Chemical and Biomarker Detection: Innovative Sensor Technologies and Standardisation for Environmental and Public Health Safety,” while Manisha’s addressed “Transforming Buildings to Restore Sustainability.” Their work was selected amongst the top four from over 100 participating institutes across India.
This recognition underscores NIT-T’s commitment to integrating standards and quality assurance principles into its educational programs, contributing to a better future for the nation.
