CHENNAI, October 22, 2025 (The Hindu) – A 74-year-old man was rescued from the overflowing Cooum river near Choolaimedu late Tuesday night. Palani, a resident along the riverbank, reportedly slipped and fell into the river, swollen from recent heavy rains, while standing near its edge.
His cries for help were heard by local residents who alerted the Choolaimedu police. A patrol team, led by Assistant Inspector Sudhakar and including police personnel Sarathkumar and Jayaprakash, responded swiftly to the call. They located Palani clinging to a wire near the river bank and successfully rescued him.
The elderly man was subsequently reunited with his family and provided with necessary medical assistance. The incident highlights the dangers posed by the recent heavy rains and overflowing waterways in the city.
