Parvez Rasool, Jammu and Kashmir’s Cricket Icon, Announces Retirement

SRINAGAR, October 21, 2025 – Parvez Rasool, the first cricketer from Jammu and Kashmir to represent India, has announced his retirement from professional cricket. The announcement, made via social media on Monday, October 20, 2025, marks the end of a remarkable career that inspired a generation of cricketers in the region.

Rasool’s journey to the national stage was a source of immense pride for the state. He earned his first call-up to the Indian squad in 2013 for the Zimbabwe ODI series, a selection that garnered widespread praise even before he took the field. He debuted for India in an ODI against Bangladesh in June 2014, followed by a T20I appearance against England in January 2017.

“It’s been an incredible journey, one filled with dreams, hard work, joy, and countless memories that I will cherish forever,” Rasool stated in his online post. He expressed gratitude to his family, coaches, teammates, and fans for their unwavering support throughout his career. “Every moment I’ve spent on the field has been an honour and a blessing,” he added.

Beyond international cricket, Rasool made his IPL debut in 2013 with the Pune Warriors, a moment he described as the “proudest day” of his life. He also played for Sunrisers Hyderabad for two years. In 2018, he achieved another milestone, becoming the first cricketer from Jammu and Kashmir to play 100 List-A matches.

While stepping away from professional cricket, Rasool emphasized his commitment to continuing to play for his passion and mentoring aspiring cricketers in Jammu and Kashmir. He also thanked the Jammu and Kashmir government for their support throughout his career.

Parvez Rasool’s contribution to Indian cricket, and especially to the sport in Jammu and Kashmir, will be remembered for years to come.
