Tue Oct 21 03:00:00 UTC 2025: Mariners Face Elimination After Game 6 Loss to Blue Jays

TORONTO – The Seattle Mariners’ quest for their first-ever World Series appearance hit a major roadblock Sunday, as they fell to the Toronto Blue Jays 6-2 in Game 6 of the American League Championship Series. The loss sets up a win-or-go-home Game 7 showdown on Monday night at Rogers Centre.

Despite leading the series 2-0 and later 3-2, the Mariners now find themselves on the brink of elimination. Their struggles in Game 6 were marked by missed opportunities, defensive miscues, and an inability to capitalize with runners on base.

The Mariners committed three errors, which directly led to Blue Jays runs, and grounded into three double plays. Twice they loaded the bases, only to see rallies squashed by inning-ending double plays.

“We could have played a maybe cleaner game,” said Julio Rodríguez. “We definitely set the table a few times, but we couldn’t capitalize.”

While Josh Naylor provided a solo home run, the Mariners struggled to string together hits with runners in scoring position, going just 6-for-40 (.150) in the series since Game 3.

“I think we did a good job of putting some pressure on at times, and sometimes you’re not going to come through,” Naylor said.

Logan Gilbert, who took the loss, shouldered the blame. “This loss was on me”.

The winner of Monday night’s Game 7 will advance to the World Series to face the Los Angeles Dodgers. For the Mariners, it’s a chance to rewrite their storybook season and finally reach the Fall Classic. For the Blue Jays, it’s a chance to complete a come-from-behind series victory and return to the World Series for the first time since 1993.
