Zimbabwe’s Brad Evans Shatters Records with Sensational Five-Wicket Haul
Harare, Zimbabwe – In a stunning return to Test cricket, Zimbabwean fast bowler Brad Evans etched his name in the record books today, dismantling Afghanistan’s batting lineup with a career-defining performance. Playing in only his second Test match, and his first in two and a half years, the 28-year-old spearheaded a ferocious bowling attack that saw Afghanistan bundled out for a meager 127 at the Harare Sports Club.
Winning the toss and electing to bowl, Zimbabwe immediately put Afghanistan under pressure. Evans (5/22) partnered with Blessing Muzarabani (3/47) to inflict significant damage, as Afghanistan suffered their fourth-lowest Test score and their worst in six years.
Evans’ five-wicket haul was not only instrumental in Zimbabwe’s dominance but also created a new national record. His miserly spell of 5 wickets for just 22 runs is now the least number of runs conceded by a Zimbabwean bowler while claiming a five-wicket haul in Test history.
The visitors, who had a promising start at 77/1, collapsed dramatically, losing their last nine wickets for a mere 50 runs. Evans was particularly lethal, claiming 5 of the final 7 wickets to fall.
Evans, a promising bowling all-rounder, had previously showcased his talent in the 2022 T20 World Cup, playing a pivotal role in Zimbabwe’s thrilling one-run victory over Pakistan.
Despite facing injury setbacks in recent years, Evans is now making significant strides in all three formats for Zimbabwe. His record-breaking performance today is a testament to his resilience and a major boost for Zimbabwean cricket.
