Kurt Suzuki Named Manager of the Los Angeles Angels

ANAHEIM, CA – October 21, 2025 – The Los Angeles Angels have found their new manager, hiring former Angels catcher and current special assistant Kurt Suzuki, the New York Post’s Jon Heyman reported today. The move concludes a search that saw several former Angels players considered for the position.

Suzuki emerged as the choice after initial frontrunner Albert Pujols and the Angels failed to reach an agreement on a contract, as well as on “coaches and resources,” according to Heyman. Another candidate, longtime Angels outfielder Torii Hunter, was also reportedly out of the running yesterday.

Other names floated during the search included experienced managers like Rocco Baldelli, Brandon Hyde, and Angels third base coach Bo Porter. It remains unclear if the Angels formally interviewed these candidates, or if they were impressed enough with Suzuki’s vision to offer him the job.

Suzuki takes over a team looking to rebound in 2026. Fan reaction to the hiring has been mixed, with some expressing excitement for the former player’s return and others questioning the lack of managerial experience.

“The Angels got their man. With Shohei Ohtani out of reach, they’ve turned to another familiar face—Kurt Suzuki is officially the new manager,” stated one fan comment. “He may not throw 100 or hit moonshots, but he knows this clubhouse, this fanbase, and what it means to wear Halo red.”

The Angels will hold a press conference next week to formally introduce Suzuki as the new manager. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.
