TEHRAN – Popular Iranian actor Pejman Jamshidi has been arrested and is facing serious charges of rape following a complaint filed by a 20-year-old woman. According to reports from Shahraranews and confirmed by the Judiciary’s media center, the complainant, an aspiring actress, alleges that Jamshidi, known for his roles in both film and television, lured her under the guise of offering career opportunities.
The alleged victim claims that Jamshidi, after promising to help her secure roles in future projects, kidnapped her while driving her home, ignoring her pleas to be let out. She alleges he then took her to his residence, bound her, and sexually assaulted her.
“Some time ago, a woman approached the judicial authorities, accusing a film actor of rape,” the Judiciary’s media center stated. “Following the private plaintiff’s complaint and expert and scientific investigations, this famous film actor was summoned to the judicial authority, informed of the charges, and arrested.”
Following the complaint, the case was initially referred to the Tehran Criminal Court for investigation of kidnapping charges. Due to the severity of the allegations, the rape charge has been sent to the Tehran Criminal Court. The kidnapping portion of the case will be handled by the Court of Culture and Media due to the defendant’s high profile.
Jamshidi appeared in court yesterday with the complainant. Following the hearing, his bail was revoked, and he was remanded in custody. He is currently being held in quarantine unit 3 of Qezel Hesar prison.
