**Oklahoma Wide Receiver Jayden Gibson No Longer With Team**
NORMAN, OK – Oklahoma Sooners wide receiver Jayden Gibson is no longer with the program, Head Coach Brent Venables confirmed Wednesday. Venables addressed the situation during the SEC coaches teleconference, stating that Gibson had departed the team. He did not provide any further explanation for the decision.
Gibson, a former standout from Apopka, Florida, has been plagued by injuries. He suffered a torn patellar tendon in August 2024, sidelining him for the entire 2024 season. A setback during route running prior to spring practice further delayed his return. Coach Venables had previously indicated in late May that Gibson was on track to return early this season. However, Gibson has not appeared in any games this season and hasn’t been seen on the sidelines with the team.
During his last healthy season in 2023, Gibson emerged as a significant downfield threat, catching 14 passes for 375 yards and five touchdowns. His impressive 26.7 yards-per-reception average and ability to make contested catches showcased his potential.
Gibson’s departure further impacts an Oklahoma wide receiver corps that has already faced its share of challenges. The current receiving core is led by transfers Isaiah Sategna, Deion Burks, and Keontez Lewis. Recently, Javonnie Gibson has returned from a broken leg he sustained during spring practices.
