Wed Oct 15 16:10:00 UTC 2025: **Tennis Stars Chase Multi-Million Dollar Payday at Saudi Arabia’s Six Kings Slam**

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia – Top tennis players are facing scrutiny as they participate in the Six Kings Slam exhibition tournament in Saudi Arabia, beginning Wednesday, despite previous complaints about the sport’s demanding calendar. However, players like Taylor Fritz are citing the lucrative financial incentives as the primary draw.

“I’d love for them to show me a tournament where you can go play three matches – well, for the top two seeds, two matches – and potentially make $6 million,” Fritz stated in a video interview from Riyadh.

The second edition of the Six Kings Slam features a star-studded lineup including Jannik Sinner, who pocketed the top prize last year. Each player is guaranteed a $1.5 million appearance fee, with the champion potentially earning $6 million in total – significantly more than the $5 million awarded to the US Open singles winners.

The event is part of Saudi Arabia’s growing investment in tennis, which includes hosting the WTA Finals and the ATP Next Gen Finals, as well as the Public Investment Fund’s sponsorship of tour rankings. However, the move has faced criticism, with tennis legends like Chris Evert and Martina Navratilova raising concerns about the country’s human rights record, particularly regarding LGBTQ+ and women’s rights.

While acknowledging the ethical concerns, players are being transparent about the financial motivation. “The money is nothing we’re trying to hide,” said Sinner, who has had a stellar year, winning the Australian Open and Wimbledon. “We know how much is at stake here, and it would be a lie if I told you it wasn’t a motivation.”

Sinner assured fans he has recovered from leg cramps that forced him to withdraw from a recent match. He faces Stefano Tsitsipas on the opening day, while Fritz will play Alexander Zverev. The winners will then face Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic, respectively. The tournament culminates in a Saturday final between the two semi-final victors.

With a collective haul of 34 Grand Slam titles between them, the Six Kings Slam participants showcase the sport’s elite, all vying for the substantial prize money and the prestige of winning in Riyadh. The event is being broadcast live on Netflix.
