**Congress Slams Modi Govt After Trump Praises Pakistan Army Chief, Citing “Disaster” for India’s Diplomacy**

**New Delhi – October 14, 2025:** The Indian National Congress (INC) has launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government, following U.S. President Donald Trump’s public praise of Pakistan Army chief Field Marshal Asim Munir. The Congress party argues that President Trump’s actions effectively endorse India’s adversaries on the global stage, despite Prime Minister Modi’s claims of a close relationship with the American leader.

The controversy stems from a world leaders’ summit in Egypt on Monday, where President Trump invited Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to speak, referring to him and General Munir as “friends of peace.”

INC communications in-charge Jairam Ramesh stated, “President Trump hosted Field Marshal Asim Munir to an unprecedented lunch at the White House on June 18, 2025 — the same man whose inflammatory statements preceded the Pahalgam terror attack orchestrated by Pakistan. Now, in Egypt, President Trump calls Munir his ‘favourite Field Marshal’. What kind of friendship is this?”

Congress Whip in the Lok Sabha, Manickam Tagore, further condemned the situation, stating, “The world is not standing with India, it’s now praising those who target India. This is not diplomacy, this is disaster.” He questioned the efficacy of Modi’s foreign policy, asserting that it has “collapsed.”

President Trump also remarked at the summit that he believes “India and Pakistan will live very nicely together,” and described India as “a great country with a very good friend of mine at the top.” Pakistan’s Prime Minister Sharif responded by suggesting Mr. Trump be nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize.

The U.S. President has repeatedly taken credit for brokering a ceasefire between India and Pakistan in May, following Operation Sindoor. India, however, maintains that the cessation of hostilities was the result of direct talks between military officials from both countries, denying any third-party intervention.

The escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, coupled with President Trump’s seemingly pro-Pakistan stance, have raised serious concerns within the Indian political landscape regarding the future of Indo-U.S. relations.
