**Los Angeles, CA** – The Los Angeles Dodgers have made a single adjustment to their roster as they prepare for the National League Championship Series (NLCS), replacing third catcher Dalton Rushing with right-handed pitcher Ben Casparius. The move, announced before Game 1 on Monday, reflects the Dodgers’ strategic need for extra pitching depth in the best-of-seven series against the Milwaukee Brewers.
Manager Dave Roberts had hinted at the likelihood of adding a pitcher, given the demanding schedule with limited off days. Casparius, a 26-year-old rookie, offers the Dodgers a valuable option as a multi-inning reliever capable of being deployed against right-handed-heavy lineups.
Casparius initially impressed in the first half of the season, boasting a 2.54 ERA and a low batting average against. While his performance dipped after a brief stint in the rotation, he has seemingly regained his form in the minor leagues. His recent success against right-handed hitters and his previous experience within the team’s playoff environment made him an attractive addition.
The decision to remove Rushing, a former top prospect, comes as Will Smith’s recovery from a fractured hand mitigates the need for three catchers. Rushing had limited playing time in the first two rounds of the playoffs.
While the change does leave the Dodgers with one less left-handed bat on the bench, the team opted to largely maintain the roster that carried them through the previous rounds, prioritizing the added pitching depth needed for the NLCS.
