**Three Dead in Failed Rescue Operation in Kollam, Kerala**
*Thiruvananthapuram – October 13, 2025* – A rescue attempt turned deadly in Neduvathoor, Kollam, Kerala, early Monday morning, claiming the lives of three individuals, including a Fire and Rescue Services officer.
The victims have been identified as Sonu S. Kumar, 36, a first responder from the Kottarakkara Fire and Rescue Services unit; Archana, 33, a local resident of Neduvathoor; and Sivakrishnan, 22, Archana’s partner from Thrissur.
According to police reports, the Fire and Rescue Services received a distress call reporting that Archana had jumped into a municipal well near her home. Mr. Kumar was part of the rescue team dispatched to the scene. During the rescue attempt, as Mr. Kumar abseiled into the well to retrieve Archana, the concrete barricade surrounding the well unexpectedly collapsed.
Police said Sivakrishnan, who was leaning into the well, also fell in as the debris fell down. The falling debris trapped all three individuals at the bottom of the well.
While fellow rescue workers and local residents managed to extract the three from the well, they showed little signs of life and were pronounced dead upon arrival at a local hospital.
Preliminary investigations suggest that Archana’s actions were prompted by a dispute with Sivakrishnan. “Our initial findings indicate the incident followed an argument between Archana and Sivakrishnan over a missing bottle of alcohol,” a police spokesperson stated. “We have also recovered videos posted by Archana on social media documenting injuries she allegedly sustained.”
Police have registered a case of unnatural death and are continuing their investigation.
