**TAMPA, FL -** Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Emeka Egbuka is making a strong case for Offensive Rookie of the Year after a stellar start to the season. Last week, Egbuka was named Offensive Rookie of the Month for September and followed it up with a dominant performance against the Seattle Seahawks, catching all seven of his targets for 163 yards and a touchdown in a 38-35 victory.
His performance against Seattle ranks among the best rookie wide receiver games in recent history. Egbuka is also one of only 13 rookies to surpass 400 receiving yards in the first five weeks of the season, placing him in elite company.
As a result, Egbuka has become the odds-on favorite to win Offensive Rookie of the Year, with some betting sites listing his odds as low as -125.
However, the season is far from over, and several other rookies are vying for the award. New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart is making a name for himself with his dual-threat ability, becoming one of three quarterbacks in NFL history to rush for 50+ yards in each of his first three starts. Tennessee Titans quarterback Ward has struggled, but flashes of potential are visible.
Several rookie running backs are also in the mix, including Washington’s Jacory Croskey-Merritt. The running back is currently the most explosive back on Washington’s roster by far.
Egbuka currently leads all rookies in receiving DYAR, along with a spot among the top-10 wide receivers. He excels in nearly every receiving category, including yards per route run, yards per target, and yards after the catch. Despite his success, Egbuka has a couple of drops this season, and draws a lot of contested targets.
While Egbuka’s numbers are impressive, the season is still young, and he’ll need to maintain his level of play to secure the Offensive Rookie of the Year award. Other factors, such as team success, could also play a role in the final decision.
