Sun Oct 12 22:20:00 UTC 2025: ## San Francisco Fleet Week Air Show Takes Flight Despite Government Shutdown
**SAN FRANCISCO** – The roar of jet engines filled the San Francisco sky this weekend as the annual Fleet Week Air Show continued, albeit in a scaled-down form due to the ongoing government shutdown. While U.S. Military aircraft were grounded, the show went on, with the Royal Canadian Air Force Snowbirds stepping in as the star attraction.
Thousands of spectators flocked to the Marina Green and Fisherman’s Wharf on Saturday to witness the aerial displays. The Snowbirds wowed the crowds with their impressive stunts, earning rave reviews from attendees. “It’s really awesome…spectacular,” said Tina Chung from Pleasanton. “It’s more than what we expected.”
While the absence of the Blue Angels was noted, many, like Maria Pereira from Orinda, were simply happy to see the event continue. “The Blue Angels are not going to be here, but do you know what? Canada’s Snowbirds are here!” she exclaimed. “I’m so happy people showed up, even though the government is shut down.”
The government shutdown has impacted local businesses. Charlie Islas from Cochinita Food Truck noted a slower pace compared to previous years. “Right now, business is slow. Usually, this time last year, we had a big line of people coming by for food…Seems slow this year.”
At Fisherman’s Wharf, organizers of Fleet Fest are adapting to the circumstances, focusing on local military recruiters and classic cars. “We’re hopeful,” said Bri Maughan, executive director of the Fisherman’s Wharf Community Benefit District. “We expect a lower turnout, but people are excited to come.”
Fleet Week continues on Sunday, with the Air Show running from 12 to 4 p.m.
