Mon Oct 13 02:10:00 UTC 2025: ## Ahoi Ashtami 2025: Mothers Observe Fast for Children’s Well-being

**[City, Date]** – Today marks Ahoi Ashtami, a significant Hindu festival observed on the eighth day (Ashtami) of the Krishna Paksha (waning phase of the moon) in the month of Kartik. Mothers across the nation are observing a fast and offering prayers to Ahoi Mata, believed to be an incarnation of Goddess Parvati.

The fast is undertaken by mothers seeking protection, good health, and longevity for their children. It’s also considered auspicious for couples facing difficulties in conceiving. Astrologers emphasize the importance of listening to the Ahoi Ashtami Katha (story) to fully reap the benefits of the fast.

**The Legend of Ahoi Ashtami**

The story revolves around a wealthy moneylender’s daughter who accidentally killed a baby porcupine (Syahu) while digging for clay with her sisters-in-law. Enraged, the mother porcupine cursed her, condemning her to a barren womb.

Desperate, the daughter pleaded with her sisters-in-law to take the curse upon themselves. Only the youngest sister-in-law agreed. Tragically, every child she bore died within a week. Distraught, she sought the advice of a priest who instructed her to serve a Surahi cow.

Pleased with her devotion, the Surahi cow offered to take her to the Syahu Mata to break the curse. During their journey, the youngest sister-in-law bravely saved a Garuda’s chick from a snake. Initially angered upon her return and seeing blood, the Garuda attacked the woman, believing she killed her chick. Upon learning the truth, the Garuda was grateful and helped them reach Syahu Mata.

Deeply moved by the youngest sister-in-law’s devotion and selfless nature, Syahu Mata lifted the curse, blessing her with seven sons and seven daughters-in-law. The story highlights the power of devotion and sacrifice.

The festival’s name, “Ahoi,” symbolizes the power to turn the impossible (“anhoni”) into the possible (“honi”). It’s a testament to a mother’s unwavering love and faith.

This Ahoi Ashtami, may the blessings of Ahoi Mata fill every household with happiness and prosperity.
