**Congress Party Irked by Senior Leader Chidambaram’s Remarks on Operation Blue Star and 26/11**
**New Delhi – October 12, 2025 (The Hindu)** – The Indian National Congress (INC) is reportedly displeased with senior leader P. Chidambaram’s recent public comments regarding Operation Blue Star and the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks.
Chidambaram, speaking at a literature festival on Saturday, stated that Operation Blue Star, the 1984 military action at the Golden Temple, was “not the right way” to apprehend militants. He added that then-Prime Minister Indira Gandhi “paid with her life” for the operation. Chidambaram acknowledged the decision was a collective one involving the Army, Intelligence, police and civil defence, but suggested it was a mistake.
The INC leadership is said to be agitated by these remarks, viewing them as potentially embarrassing to the party. Sources within the party stated that senior leaders “who have received everything from the party should be more careful in making public statements that embarrass the party. This cannot become a habit.”
Furthermore, the Congress leadership is reportedly unhappy with Chidambaram’s recent comments on the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks. In a podcast, he suggested that he considered military retribution following the attacks and discussed it with then-Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. The UPA government, however, ultimately decided against such a move.
The INC has not released an official statement, but sources indicate the party leadership is urging senior members to exercise greater caution and consider the potential impact of their statements on the party’s image.
