JERUSALEM – In a significant breakthrough, Israel and Hamas have agreed to a ceasefire and hostage release deal brokered by the United States under President Donald Trump’s 20-point Gaza Peace Plan. The Israeli government approved the agreement early Friday morning, prompting immediate implementation of the ceasefire.

The deal includes the release of all hostages, both living and deceased, and a phased Israeli withdrawal from parts of Gaza. According to Hamas chief negotiator Khalil al-Hayya, the group has received guarantees from the US that the agreement marks a complete end to the war in Gaza.

The agreement was reached after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu convened his security cabinet to discuss the proposal. The decision reportedly prompted Netanyahu to pause the meeting for a phone call with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Prime Minister Modi congratulated Netanyahu on the progress made under President Trump’s peace plan, specifically praising the agreement for the release of all hostages. Modi reaffirmed India’s stance against terrorism in all forms. Netanyahu’s office also confirmed the call and Modi’s congratulations.

US President Donald Trump hailed the agreement as a “momentous breakthrough” and said he plans to travel to the region for an official signing ceremony in Egypt. He stated that the hostages are expected to be released “on Monday or Tuesday.”

US President Donald Trump’s special envoy to the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, and his son-in-law, Jared Kushner, were present in the Israeli government’s meeting in Jerusalem, where the government voted on the US-brokered ceasefire deal.
