**Kerala’s Bioeconomy Surges, Reaching $8.24 Billion, Fueled by Bio-Pharma and Industry**
**THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, October 10, 2025** – Kerala’s bioeconomy is experiencing a robust expansion, boasting a 12% annual growth rate, according to the Kerala Bioeconomy Report 2025. The report, prepared by the Association of Biotechnology Led Enterprises (ABLE), reveals the sector’s value has climbed from $6.25 billion in 2022 to $8.24 billion in 2025.
Industries Minister P. Rajeeve officially released the report today at the ‘Bio Connect 3.0 International Life Science Conclave and Expo’ held in the capital. The conclave was jointly organized by the Kerala Life Sciences Industries Park and Bio360 Life Sciences Park.
The report highlights a significant increase in the bioeconomy’s contribution to Kerala’s Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP), rising from 3.96% to 5.1% over the past three years. The bio-pharma sector emerges as the dominant force, accounting for 44% of the total bioeconomy value. Following closely is the bio-industry sector, contributing 35%, with biofuels, fermentation-based manufacturing, marine processing, and alcohol production driving its expansion.
The report attributes this growth to a strong institutional framework, including the Kerala Medical Technology Consortium, Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology, and CSIR-NIIST. The ecosystem is further bolstered by the contribution of over 60 research institutions. This positions Kerala as a key player in India’s growing bioeconomy landscape.
