**U.S. Lawmakers Urge Trump to Repair Strained Ties with India Amid Tariff Concerns**

**Washington D.C. – October 9, 2025** – A bipartisan group of 19 U.S. lawmakers, including prominent Indian-American representatives, have called on President Donald Trump to take immediate action to mend the deteriorating relationship between the United States and India. In a letter sent to the President on Wednesday, the members of Congress expressed deep concern over the impact of recent tariff hikes on Indian goods, which have reached 50%.

Led by Indian-American Congressman Ro Khanna and Congresswoman Deborah Ross, the group warned that the tariffs are not only harming American consumers and manufacturers but also pushing India towards closer alliances with China and Russia.

“Recent actions by your administration have strained relations with the world’s largest democracy, creating negative consequences for both countries,” the letter stated. “We urge you to take immediate steps to reset and repair this critical partnership.”

The lawmakers highlighted the significant economic benefits of the U.S.-India trading relationship, which supports hundreds of thousands of jobs in both countries. They emphasized India’s crucial role as a stabilizing force in the Indo-Pacific region, particularly through its participation in the Quad security dialogue with the U.S., Australia, and Japan, and its importance as a counterweight to China’s growing influence.

Other Indian-American lawmakers who signed the letter included Raja Krishnamoorthi, Suhas Subramanyam, Pramila Jayapal, and Shri Thanedar.

The letter echoes concerns raised by other members of Congress last month, who accused President Trump of jeopardizing America’s national security by driving India closer to Russia and China. The current group urges the President to begin restoring the relationship by reviewing his administration’s tariff policy.

The strained relationship comes at a critical time, as India’s role in the Indo-Pacific region becomes increasingly important in balancing against growing Chinese assertiveness.
