**Karnataka Extends Dasara Holiday for Teachers to Complete Social Survey**
**Bengaluru, October 7, 2025** – The Karnataka state government has announced an extension of the Dasara holidays for government and aided schools until October 18th. The decision, made during a meeting led by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, aims to facilitate the completion of the ongoing Social and Educational Survey across the state.
The extension follows complaints from teachers who expressed difficulties in balancing their teaching responsibilities with the demands of conducting the survey. The survey, commissioned by the Karnataka State Commission for Backward Classes, seeks to gather comprehensive data on the social and educational status of the state’s population.
“We have come to an understanding with the Department of School Education and Literacy and the commission,” stated Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. “Survey work has not been completed in all districts… we have decided to extend the survey work till October 18.”
While some districts like Koppal have achieved high survey completion rates (97%), others, particularly the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) region, lag behind (67%). To compensate for the loss of eight working days, the government plans to conduct special classes after schools reopen.
The Chief Minister also warned that action would be taken against teachers who fail to participate in the survey. Pre-university college lecturers have been exempted due to the commencement of mid-term exams on October 12th. Approximately 1.6 lakh enumerators, including 1.2 lakh teachers, are involved in the survey.
Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar noted the disparity in cooperation levels, with 90% in rural areas cooperating compared to only 25% in the GBA region.
The government also announced compensation of ₹20 lakh for each of the families of three teachers who tragically died while undertaking survey work.
As of Tuesday, a total of 1.19 crore households out of 1.43 crore in the State have been enumerated, covering 4.47 crore of the State’s population.
