Mon Oct 06 15:24:06 UTC 2025: ## Malappuram Municipality Organizes Record-Breaking Excursion for Senior Citizens

**MALAPPURAM, India – October 6, 2025:** Malappuram Municipality is set to embark on a mega excursion to Wayanad on Tuesday, October 7, for over 3,000 senior citizens residing within the municipality limits. The event, organized entirely by the local civic body, is poised to become the largest senior citizen outing ever orchestrated by a municipality in the region.

Eighty buses have been meticulously arranged to transport the elderly residents from all 40 wards of Malappuram Municipality on this historic journey. The buses will depart from Kottakkunnu around 6:30 a.m., with local dignitaries, including Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) and district administration officials, present to see them off.

“This is more than just a trip,” emphasized Municipal Chairperson Mujeeb Kaderi and Welfare Standing Committee Chairperson Mariyumma Shareef Konothodi in a joint statement. “It is a demonstration of our deep love and gratitude towards our elders, the pillars of our community who have contributed immensely in their prime. We want them to know that we are always here for them.”

The planned route includes visits to scenic destinations such as Pookode Lake and Karapuzha Dam in Wayanad. To ensure a smooth journey, special traffic management arrangements have been implemented at the Thamarassery pass, preventing traffic congestion along the Ghat road. Two auditoriums near Areekode will serve as breakfast and dinner stops, while lunch will be provided at an auditorium in Muttil, Wayanad. The excursion is structured to ensure a return to Malappuram by 10 p.m.

The municipality is covering all expenses associated with the tour, including gifts of umbrellas, dhohar, towels, and other presents for the participants. A dedicated medical team, with a doctor assigned to each village, will accompany the trip in three ambulances. Spare buses will be stationed at Thamarassery and Kalpetta as a contingency measure in case of vehicle breakdowns.

The excursion’s budget of ₹40 lakh is being financed through the municipality’s own funds and sponsorships. This large-scale effort demonstrates Malappuram Municipality’s commitment to the well-being and happiness of its senior citizens.
