Mon Oct 06 03:00:00 UTC 2025: **Ortiz Offers Words of Encouragement to Struggling Yankees Pitcher Weaver**

**NEW YORK, NY** – In a surprising display of sportsmanship, Boston Red Sox legend David “Big Papi” Ortiz offered words of encouragement to New York Yankees reliever Luke Weaver, who has been struggling in the postseason.

Weaver, a key bullpen piece for the Yankees during the regular season, posting a 3.62 ERA with 8 saves, has faltered in the playoffs. He failed to record an out in both Game 1 of the Wild Card Series and Game 1 of the Division Series, allowing multiple runs in each appearance.

Following the Yankees’ Game 1 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays, Weaver expressed optimism but also frustration. Ortiz, during postgame analysis on Fox Sports MLB, addressed Weaver’s struggles, advising him to let go of the past and maintain the same mindset that made him successful during the regular season.

“He got good stuff. But sometimes you know you kind of have to let it go,” Ortiz said. “Whatever you do during the regular season, that’s the mentality. You help the Yankees come out of the bullpen to be where they are.”

Ortiz added that he would tell Weaver directly to focus on the future and bring the same winning mentality to each game.

The Yankees lost Game 1 of the Division Series 10-1. They will face the Blue Jays again in Game 2 on Sunday.
