WARANGAL, October 6, 2025 – The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Warangal is making significant strides in fostering innovation and entrepreneurship. Since the establishment of the NIT Warangal Innovation and Entrepreneurship Foundation (NITWIEF) in February 2024, the institute has ramped up its efforts to nurture a thriving startup environment within its campus and the broader Tier-II and Tier-III city landscape.

According to NIT Warangal Director Bidyadhar Subudhi, the NITWIEF has already incubated 35 startups, providing them with essential resources such as workspace, mentorship, and strategic guidance. In the 2024-25 period, the foundation awarded ₹38 lakh in grants to 11 promising ventures.

“We are actively supporting student-led innovation,” Mr. Subudhi told The Hindu. “Currently, six startup ideas originating from our student community are being nurtured, reflecting our commitment to fostering an entrepreneurial spirit among our youth.”

The institute is leveraging external partnerships to amplify its impact. A collaboration with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeiTY) through the ‘Gen-Next Support for Innovative Startups (GENESIS)’ scheme is providing funding of up to ₹10 lakhs for startups over a year. Furthermore, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed with the International Startup Foundation of Karnataka in March 2025 to provide mentorship and networking opportunities. A chapter of the International Startup Foundation will soon be established at NIT Warangal.

Beyond startup incubation, NIT Warangal is deeply invested in protecting intellectual property. To date, the institute has filed 170 patents, securing 72 patents and having 83 currently pending or under process. This dedication to innovation underscores NIT Warangal’s commitment to playing a pivotal role in India’s growing technological landscape.
