Mon Oct 06 14:42:16 UTC 2025: ## Kerala Government Doctors Protest Unpaid Arrears and Faculty Shortages
**Thiruvananthapuram, October 6, 2025** – Faculty members of government medical colleges across Kerala held a one-hour protest today, demanding the State government address long-standing issues related to pay revision anomalies and the non-payment of arrears spanning over four years. The Kerala Government Medical College Teachers’ Association (KGMCTA) spearheaded the demonstrations, citing broken promises from the government and a continued failure to address critical shortages in faculty positions.
The protests, which took place at all government medical colleges from 1 PM to 2 PM, also highlighted the lack of Dearness Allowance (DA) disbursement, further fueling the doctors’ discontent.
“The government has repeatedly broken promises made to the KGMCTA regarding the resolution of our issues and payment of arrears,” stated Dr. Rosnara Begum, State president of KGMCTA, while inaugurating the dharna at Kozhikode Government Medical College. “They are forcing our hand to go on strike.”
KGMCTA claims to have repeatedly reminded the government of these issues over the past five years, with little to no progress. They further highlighted that the recent Cabinet meetings failed to address the crucial need for creating adequate faculty posts in newly established medical colleges.
Several other medical organizations, including the Kerala Medical PG Association, the House Surgeons’ Association, and student unions, joined the protests in solidarity.
KGMCTA’s central executive committee is scheduled to meet on Tuesday, October 7th, to determine the next steps in their agitation. The association has warned that if the government continues to ignore their demands, they will be forced to intensify their protest actions. The future of medical services in the state hangs in the balance as doctors threaten further action if their concerns remain unaddressed.
