Sun Oct 05 20:50:00 UTC 2025: ## Chargers Suffer Key Injuries Ahead of Commanders Clash
**EL SEGUNDO, Calif.** – The Los Angeles Chargers will be without rookie left tackle Joe Alt for Sunday’s game against the Washington Commanders due to a high right ankle sprain. The injury, sustained in the first quarter of last week’s loss to the New York Giants after a collision with Giants linebacker Kayvon Thibodeaux, forced Alt to be carted off the field.
“He’s out,” Head Coach Jim Harbaugh confirmed, adding that he was unsure if Alt would be placed on injured reserve. Alt was seen in a walking boot this week and missed all practice sessions.
Adding to the Chargers’ woes, wide receiver Derius Davis has also been ruled out with a knee injury. Cornerback Tarheeb Still will continue to handle punt return duties in Davis’ absence.
While Harbaugh remained tight-lipped about Alt’s replacement at left tackle, stating, “We’ll just keep that to ourselves. We have a good plan,” the absence of the rookie is a significant concern. The offensive line struggled mightily without Alt against the Giants, with his replacement, Austin Deculus, allowing six pressures on quarterback Justin Herbert in just 37 pass-blocking snaps. Herbert, who has already been pressured 47 times this season, the second-most in the NFL, faces added vulnerability.
There is some positive news for the Chargers’ offensive line. Right guard Mekhi Becton, who missed last week’s game due to a concussion, is listed as questionable but has cleared the final step in the NFL’s concussion protocol and could potentially play Sunday. Becton was a full participant in Friday’s practice after being limited earlier in the week.
The Chargers (2-2) will need to find a way to protect Herbert and establish a run game against the Commanders (2-2) despite these key injuries, or risk facing another tough loss.
