Mon Oct 06 10:50:00 UTC 2025: ## Bihar Gears Up for Two-Phase Assembly Elections in November
**Patna, Bihar -** The Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced the dates for the Bihar Assembly elections, setting the stage for a crucial political battle in the state. Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar revealed on Monday that the polls will be held in two phases on November 6th and 11th, with counting scheduled for November 14th.
The first phase, on November 6th, will see voting in 121 constituencies across central Bihar, including areas affected by floods and rural regions. Key districts included are Madhepura, Darbhanga, Muzaffarpur, and Arrah. The second phase, on November 11th, will cover 122 constituencies bordering neighboring states, with voting taking place in areas like Valmiki Nagar, Motihari, Purnia, and Sasaram.
A total of 7.43 crore voters are eligible to cast their ballots, including approximately 14 lakh first-time voters. The current term of the 243-member Bihar Assembly expires on November 22nd.
The ECI has accommodated requests from various political parties to schedule the elections after the Chhath Puja festival, a major event in Bihar, which falls at the end of this month.
The ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA), led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s JDU in alliance with the BJP and other smaller parties, is seeking to retain power. The opposition “Mahagathbandhan,” comprising the RJD, Congress, and Left parties, is focusing on issues such as job creation, social welfare, and inclusivity.
The Election Commission has emphasized its commitment to a violence-free election, adopting a zero-tolerance policy towards any disruptive activities. Central paramilitary forces will be deployed early, and district officials have been instructed to maintain strict vigilance.
Several measures have been introduced to enhance transparency and voter convenience. These include the use of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) with candidate photos, mandatory identification for booth officials, and the webcasting of all polling stations.
The 2020 assembly elections saw the NDA secure a majority with 125 seats, while the Mahagathbandhan won 110. The BJP emerged as the single largest party.
With preparations in full swing, Bihar is bracing for a fiercely contested election that will shape the state’s political landscape for the next five years.
