**Williams Drivers Albon and Sainz Disqualified from Singapore GP Qualifying**
**Singapore –** Williams drivers Alex Albon and Carlos Sainz have been disqualified from Saturday’s qualifying session for the Singapore Grand Prix due to a technical infringement. FIA officials discovered that the rear wings on both cars exceeded the maximum permitted gap of 85mm when the Drag Reduction System (DRS) was deployed, violating Article 3.10.10 g of the Formula 1 Technical Regulations.
The infringement was discovered during post-qualifying scrutineering. According to FIA Technical Delegate Jo Bauer’s report, both cars exceeded the maximum limit on both sides of the rear wing’s outer area.
The team admitted that while their own pre-qualifying checks indicated compliance, the FIA’s measurements revealed a larger-than-permitted gap. Williams Team Principal James Vowles expressed his disappointment, stating that the team was not seeking a performance advantage and that the rear wings had passed their own checks earlier in the day. He stated that the team is investigating the issue and will review their processes to prevent future occurrences.
This setback for Williams follows a similar disqualification for Esteban Ocon in the previous Azerbaijan Grand Prix, where his Haas car also failed a rear wing check. Albon and Sainz, who qualified in 12th and 13th respectively, will now start the Singapore Grand Prix from the back of the grid. The team will focus on damage limitation.
