**Spelling Blunder Leads to Suspension of Teacher in Himachal Pradesh**

**Shimla, October 5, 2025:** A government school teacher in Sirmaur district, Himachal Pradesh, has been suspended after a photograph of a cheque he issued containing egregious spelling errors went viral on social media. The incident has ignited concerns about the quality of education in state-run schools.

Atter Singh, a drawing teacher at the Government Senior Secondary School in Rohnat, issued the cheque for ₹7,616 (Rupees Seven thousand Six hundred and Sixteen) on September 25th. The cheque quickly gained notoriety online due to spelling mistakes such as “Saven Thursday Six Harendra Sixtey,” instead of the correct spelling.

The Directorate of School Education swiftly took action, demanding explanations from the school principal, the teacher, and other involved officials. Mr. Singh reportedly admitted to the error, attributing it to a lack of diligence. However, Director of School Education Ashish Kohli deemed the explanation unacceptable.

“Any act of negligence, casualness, disregard towards official responsibilities that might tarnish the image of the Department will invite strict disciplinary action as per rules,” warned Mr. Kohli.

The Directorate has instructed the Deputy Director of School Education (Elementary), Sirmaur, to initiate disciplinary proceedings against Mr. Singh under the Central Civil Services (Classification, Control and Appeal) Rules, 1965. The Directorate emphasized the importance of maintaining the highest standards of accuracy and responsibility when handling official documents, particularly those involving financial matters.
