**Singapore -** Two Indian nationals, Arokkiyasami Daison, 23, and Rajendran Mayilarasan, 27, have been sentenced to five years and one month in prison each, along with 12 strokes of the cane, for robbing and assaulting two sex workers in Singapore. The sentences were handed down on Friday, October 3, 2025.

The Straits Times reported that the two men pleaded guilty to voluntarily causing hurt while committing robbery. The court heard that Daison and Mayilarasan arrived in Singapore on April 24, 2025, for a vacation. They were reportedly introduced to the victims by an unknown man in the Little India area.

According to court testimony, the men contacted the women with the intent to rob them. They met the first woman in a hotel room where they tied her up, slapped her, and stole jewelry, SGD 2,000 in cash (approximately ₹137,677), her passport, and bank cards. Later that night, they robbed a second woman, stealing SGD 800 (approximately ₹55,070), two mobile phones, and her passport, after dragging her and covering her mouth.

The crime was exposed when the second victim confided in another man, who alerted the police.

During mitigation, the unrepresented defendants pleaded for leniency. Daison cited his father’s recent death and his family’s financial struggles, while Rajendran spoke of his wife and child back in India facing financial hardship.

Under Singaporean law, those convicted of voluntarily causing injury during a robbery face a minimum sentence of five to twenty years in prison and at least 12 strokes of the cane.
