Sat Oct 04 11:13:33 UTC 2025: ## Israel Accused of Systematically Targeting Journalists in Gaza: Report Details “Chilling Playbook”

**Gaza City/Doha** – A new report alleges Israel has developed a deliberate and systematic strategy to target Palestinian journalists in Gaza, silencing crucial voices documenting the ongoing conflict. With international media largely restricted from freely reporting in the Strip, local journalists have been risking their lives to provide firsthand accounts of the devastation.

The report, featuring interviews with Al Jazeera Gaza Bureau Chief Wael Dahdouh, Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) Chief Executive Jodie Ginsberg, journalist Sharif Abdel Kouddous, and journalist and author Rachel Shabi, highlights the alarming number of media workers killed in Gaza since October 7, 2023 – a figure exceeding that of any other modern conflict.

The report details what it describes as a “chilling playbook” employed by Israeli forces. Allegations include:

* **Targeting:** Direct attacks on journalists and their families, resulting in death, injury, and the destruction of homes and offices.
* **Intimidation:** Threats and harassment aimed at silencing reporters and discouraging them from documenting events.
* **Smearing:** Discrediting and defaming Palestinian journalists to undermine their credibility and the impact of their reporting.

The report underscores the vital role Palestinian journalists play in informing the world about the situation in Gaza, particularly given the limitations placed on international media access. It raises serious concerns about freedom of the press and the ability of independent media to operate in conflict zones.

“The sheer number of journalists killed in Gaza is unprecedented and demands immediate investigation,” stated Jodie Ginsberg of the CPJ. The report calls for greater protection for journalists and accountability for those responsible for attacks on the press.

Produced by Soumaya El Filali, Monazza Farooqi, Ella Willis, Tariq Nafi, and Meenakshi Ravi and presented by Richard Gizbert, the report sheds light on the dangers faced by Palestinian journalists and the alleged efforts to silence them amidst the ongoing conflict.
