Fri Oct 03 21:24:36 UTC 2025: ## Deputy Prime Minister Heckled at Manchester Vigil as Police Investigate Friendly Fire in Synagogue Attack
**Manchester, UK** – Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy faced angry heckling at a vigil held in Manchester last night for the victims of Thursday’s deadly attack outside the Heaton Park Congregation Synagogue. The attack, which occurred on Yom Kippur, Judaism’s holiest day, resulted in the deaths of Adrian Daulby, 53, and Melvin Cravitz, 66.
The incident took a further turn when Greater Manchester Police Chief Constable Steve Watson revealed Friday that one of the victims may have been fatally wounded by police gunfire during the effort to neutralize the attacker, Jihad al-Shamie, 35, who was shot dead at the scene.
“It follows therefore this injury may have been sustained as a tragic and unforeseen consequence of the urgently required action taken by my officers to bring this vicious attack to an end,” Watson stated.
Police confirmed that al-Shamie drove his car into pedestrians and then began stabbing people. Daulby, hailed as a “hero” by his family for attempting to stop the attack, was shot, as was another member of the public whose injuries were not life-threatening.
The vigil for the victims was held in the rain, and attendees expressed grief and anger, with some directly confronting Deputy Prime Minister Lammy. Individuals accused the government of inaction regarding rising anti-Semitism in the UK.
One man shouted, “My children’s school was closed today. You have allowed this to happen. You are all guilty. You have allowed Jew hatred in Manchester, on the streets.”
As Lammy addressed the community, vowing defiance against those seeking to divide, he was met with shouts of “you enabled it, every Saturday,” a reference to the pro-Palestine marches that have been regularly occurring since the start of the Israel-Gaza conflict on October 7, 2023. He also faced calls of “go to Palestine, leave us alone.”
The UK, like many Western nations, has seen a significant surge in anti-Semitic incidents since the war in Gaza began. Last year saw the second-highest number of reported incidents on record, with approximately 3,500, according to the Community Security Trust, a charity dedicated to protecting the UK’s Jewish community. The investigation into the potential friendly fire incident is ongoing.
