Sat Oct 04 00:40:00 UTC 2025: ## MrBeast Defends Fiery Stunt Video After Backlash
**LOS ANGELES -** YouTube megastar MrBeast, known for his elaborate and high-stakes videos, is facing criticism for his latest production, “Would You Risk Dying for $500,000,” which features a stuntman navigating a series of dangerous challenges, including escaping a burning building while collecting cash.
The video, which quickly amassed over 45 million views after being posted on Saturday, depicts a contestant identified as Eric taking on seven “death traps,” including being shot out of a cannon into a fire and surviving large explosions. The spectacle ignited debate online, with some accusing MrBeast, whose real name is Jimmy Donaldson, of being dangerously irresponsible and potentially encouraging viewers to imitate the stunts.
Donaldson, who boasts over 440 million subscribers and is considered the highest-paid creator on YouTube, defended the video amidst the controversy. “I take safety more serious than you could ever imagine,” he stated on social media platform X, addressing concerns about the potential risks involved.
He further clarified that the production team implemented numerous safety precautions, including ventilation systems, kill switches to extinguish the fires, and the use of a professional stuntman. A pinned comment on the YouTube video echoed these sentiments, highlighting the presence of a pyro team and multiple fire suppression methods. “We also had a pyro team [specialists in fire effects] controlling the fires and multiple fire suppression methods on every challenge to ensure we could essentially turn off the fire if there was ever an issue,” the comment read.
Despite the assurances, some social media users have labelled the video as “dystopian” and “humiliating,” while others speculated it was a carefully orchestrated PR stunt.
This is not the first time MrBeast has faced scrutiny. Last year, his Amazon series “Beast Games,” where 1,000 contestants competed for a $5 million prize, was subject to a lawsuit alleging exploitation of contestants. Donaldson refuted these claims as being blown out of proportion. Earlier this year, the Mexican government also accused him of exploiting the Mayan pyramids for a video. He also apologized after fans had a horrible experience at a Las Vegas event in his name.
The debate surrounding “Would You Risk Dying for $500,000” raises questions about the ethical responsibilities of content creators with massive audiences and the potential impact of their content on viewers. While Donaldson maintains that safety is a top priority, the controversy underscores the inherent risks associated with extreme stunts and the importance of responsible content creation.
