**Typhoon Paolo Batters Northern Luzon, Triggering Evacuations and Flooding**
**MANILA, Philippines** – Typhoon Paolo (international name: Matmo), the 16th tropical cyclone to hit the Philippines this year, is unleashing its fury on Northern and Central Luzon, bringing torrential rainfall and strong winds. The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has issued warnings for potential floods, landslides, and storm surges across the affected regions and the rest of Luzon and Western Visayas are warned to expect scattered rains and thunderstorms due to the typhoon’s trough.
Evacuations are underway, with the Aurora provincial government reporting that 21,340 people (7,214 families) are currently housed in evacuation centers, receiving both relief goods and psychosocial support. In Isabela province, at least 8,052 individuals (2,634 families) have sought shelter, with the towns of San Guillermo and Maconacon reporting the highest numbers of evacuees.
The heavy rainfall has already caused flooding in some areas, including Barangay Bolboc in Tuy, Batangas.
While the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) announced the restoration of the Magapit-Camalaniugan and Lal-lo-Santa Ana 69kV Lines, restoring power to CAGELCO II customers in Cagayan, the Santiago-Alicia 69kV Line went down on Friday, affecting ISELCO I in Isabela and IFELCO in Ifugao. NGCP is working to restore full power transmission and facilities.
PAGASA continues to monitor Typhoon Paolo’s path and urges the public to stay informed through their official forecasts for updates on wind signals, rainfall warnings, and potential storm surges.
