**LAS VEGAS** – The Las Vegas Aces are heading back to the WNBA Finals for the fourth time in six years, but this journey has been unlike any other. After a humbling 53-point loss in early August that dropped them to .500, the team underwent a transformation fueled by player empowerment and a newfound level of accountability.

Head Coach Becky Hammon, known for her innovative approaches, decided to hand over the responsibility of creating scouting reports to the players. This shift ignited a fire within the team, fostering collaboration and a deeper understanding of the game. Players began holding their own meetings and engaging in discussions without coaching staff involvement.

“It’s what turned their season around, and may be what leads to cementing their dynasty,” Hammon said.

A’ja Wilson, the reigning MVP, took on a significant leadership role, encouraging teammates to find their voice and acting as a buffer between the team and coaching staff. This player-led initiative led to the creation of an “accountability chart,” where each player is responsible for specific tasks and holds each other accountable.

This new system allows the players to discuss strategy and game plans together before presenting a final analysis and comparison to the coaches; which the team has reported works well for them. This ensures all players have a voice and feel heard.

The Aces fought their way through a tough semifinal series against the Indiana Fever, ultimately securing a Finals berth. “We went through the mud for this one,” Wilson said after Tuesday’s series-clinching victory.

While Hammon trusts her players, she also recognizes the importance of letting them lead. “The more ownership that you can get for them to take that it’s their baby,” Hammon stated. “That works out better.”

Now, the Aces are on a mission to claim their third championship in four years, driven by a collective sense of ownership and a powerful bond forged in the face of adversity.
