**Disney+ to Absorb Hulu, Goes Global with Rebrand**
**Burbank, CA – September 22, 2024** – In a move to streamline its streaming services and expand its global reach, The Walt Disney Company announced plans to phase out the standalone Hulu app while simultaneously amplifying the Hulu brand worldwide.
Starting October 8th, Hulu will replace the “Star” tile on Disney+ in all non-U.S. markets, becoming the designated home for general entertainment content. Disney believes this change will educate international audiences about the breadth of adult-oriented content available on Disney+.
“This rebranding isn’t just a cosmetic switch,” stated a Disney spokesperson. “We’re making it even easier for viewers to discover Hulu content and more on Disney+ with a more visual home screen, more intuitive navigation and more personalized recommendations.”
These enhancements are part of Disney’s broader strategy to deliver a “fully integrated unified app experience” by 2026, fully merging Hulu into Disney+. In the U.S., standalone Disney+ and Hulu plans will continue to be available for purchase. However, Disney has not yet announced a sunset date for the current Hulu app.
In addition to enhancements on connected TV devices, Disney is also focused on improving the mobile experience, launching widgets for the Disney+ iOS app.
These changes follow Disney’s full acquisition of Hulu earlier this year.
