**Drone Sightings Ground Flights at Munich Airport Amidst Rising European Tensions**

**Berlin, October 3, 2025:** Munich Airport was forced to halt all flights late Thursday evening after multiple drone sightings near the airport, marking the latest in a series of aviation disruptions across Europe. The incident grounded nearly 3,000 passengers and led to the cancellation of 17 departing flights and the diversion of 15 arriving flights to other cities including Stuttgart, Nuremberg, Vienna and Frankfurt. Camp beds and provisions were provided to stranded travelers.

German authorities have launched an investigation to determine the origin of the drones, deploying police helicopters in the search. However, details regarding the number and type of drones remain unknown.

The European Union is taking the threat seriously. EU heads of state met in Copenhagen this week to discuss strengthening the bloc’s defenses, including the potential creation of a “drone wall.” Denmark even accepted anti-drone technology from Sweden to ensure the Copenhagen meeting could proceed without disruption. Furthermore, the United States is sending anti-drone defenses to Denmark.

NATO has also stated that it has “enhanced vigilance” in the Baltic region following the recent airspace intrusions.

This incident comes during the final weekend of Oktoberfest in Munich, adding to the disruption following an earlier bomb scare on Wednesday. The string of drone-related incidents continues to heighten concerns about the security and stability of European airspace.
