Fri Oct 03 15:29:06 UTC 2025: ## Amorim Defends Tactics as Manchester United Languish in Bottom Half

**Manchester, England** – Under-fire Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has defended his tactical approach amidst mounting pressure, insisting his 3-4-2-1 system isn’t to blame for the team’s dismal form. United currently sit 14th in the Premier League after a disappointing 3-1 defeat to Brentford, their second consecutive season in the bottom half.

The Portuguese coach faces increased scrutiny as he prepares for his 50th game in charge against newly promoted Sunderland. After failing to secure European qualification last season and already being eliminated from the League Cup, Amorim is under immense pressure to improve United’s league performance. They currently trail league leaders Liverpool by eight points.

“You cannot run away from the results,” Amorim stated on Friday, refuting suggestions his tactics were at fault. “If I look back at the games we lost, the most important thing when I watch the game is not that we lost because of the system.”

Former United legend Wayne Rooney has publicly voiced his lack of faith in Amorim’s ability to turn the club around. While Amorim admitted his side’s performance against Brentford was “disjointed,” he argued that inconsistency, not the system itself, was the core problem.

“When it works one day and the other day it doesn’t… it is something about the way we do the same thing. So we need to do the same thing in the same way every day, and we are not doing that.”

Amorim offered praise for Sunderland and their manager Regis Le Bris, who have enjoyed a strong start to the season, currently sitting fifth in the league. He acknowledged Sunderland’s clear tactical identity and the challenge they pose. “They have a clear identity. It is a very good manager and a very good team,” he said.

Asked if he had a message for the United fans, Amorim said, “It is not time to say, it is time to show.”

Prior to the match against Sunderland, Manchester United will hold a minute’s silence and wear black armbands in remembrance of the victims of Thursday’s attack at a synagogue in Manchester.
