**KVUE App Delivers Latest Updates on Yogurt Shop Murders**
**Austin, TX -** Decades after the horrific 1991 Yogurt Shop Murders shook Austin to its core, KVUE has learned that the case has been solved using cutting-edge genetic genealogy. Viewers can stream KVUE on their phones for the latest developments on this case, and more, by downloading the KVUE app.
Law enforcement sources confirmed to KVUE Senior Reporter Tony Plohetski that American serial killer Robert Eugene Brashers, who died by suicide in 1999, has been identified as the perpetrator of the crime.
On December 6, 1991, Jennifer Harbison, 17, Sarah Harbison, 15, Eliza Thomas, 17, and Amy Ayers, 13, were found murdered in the I Can’t Believe It’s Yogurt shop off West Anderson Lane after the building was set ablaze. The girls were found bound and gagged, making the crime all the more shocking for the Austin community.
Brashers’s DNA has previously been linked to other violent crimes, including a 1990 murder in Greenville, South Carolina, the 1997 rape of a 14-year-old in Memphis, and the 1998 double murder of a woman and her 12-year-old daughter in Missouri.
The Austin Police Department has stated that the investigation remains open and ongoing. They have asked for the public’s patience as they continue to process the information and remain sensitive to the impact this case has had on so many lives.
The case has been the subject of intense public interest over the years. In 1999, four men were arrested and charged with the crime, but two of their cases were overturned, and the other two never made it to trial. Renewed interest in the case has been sparked in recent years, including calls for additional DNA testing, as reported by KVUE in 2020. The Yogurt Shop Murders was released as an HBO Max docuseries earlier this year.
