**United Nations, September 27, 2025 (The Hindu)** – India has strongly refuted claims made by Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif at the 80th session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA), asserting that Pakistan’s military pleaded for a cessation of hostilities during Operation Sindoor. First Secretary in India’s Permanent Mission to the UN, Petal Gahlot, delivered a scathing Right of Reply, accusing Sharif of engaging in “absurd theatrics” and glorifying terrorism.
Sharif’s address included praise for former US President Donald Trump, crediting him with averting war between the two nuclear-armed neighbors and even suggesting his nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize. He also expressed Pakistan’s readiness for dialogue with India, while criticizing New Delhi over the situation in Kashmir.
Gahlot dismissed any need for third-party intervention in issues between India and Pakistan, stating that the cessation of hostilities was a result of direct talks between the Directors General of Military Operations of the two countries.
India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7th following the April 22nd Pahalgam terror attack, which killed 26 civilians. The operation targeted terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. New Delhi maintains that the understanding on ceasing hostilities with Pakistan was reached following direct talks between the two militaries.
