Fri Sep 26 19:10:00 UTC 2025: **Blue Jays Activate Santander, Designate Manoah for Assignment in Roster Shuffle**
TORONTO – The Toronto Blue Jays made a series of roster moves Tuesday ahead of their game against the Boston Red Sox, highlighted by the activation of outfielder Anthony Santander from the 60-day injured list and the designation for assignment of former All-Star pitcher Alek Manoah.
Santander, who signed a $92.5 million, five-year contract with Toronto in the offseason, has been sidelined since May 29 with a left shoulder injury. The move comes as the playoff-bound Blue Jays look to solidify their position in the American League East race with a week remaining in the regular season. Despite high expectations, Santander has struggled at the plate this season, batting .179 with six home runs in 50 games.
In a corresponding move, the Blue Jays designated Alek Manoah for assignment. The once-promising right-hander, who finished third in AL Cy Young voting in 2022, has struggled to regain his form after a dominant 2022 season, and recently underwent elbow surgery in 2024. The Blue Jays will look to make a deal with another MLB team as he will now be available to other teams.
Further complicating matters, first baseman Ty France was placed on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to Monday, due to left oblique inflammation.
Santander was not in the starting lineup, nor did he pinch hit, as the Blue Jays fell to the Red Sox 4-1.
