Thu Sep 25 19:00:00 UTC 2025: **Headline: European Nations on Edge as Suspected Russian Drone Incursions Escalate**

**Brussels, Belgium** – Tensions are rising across Europe as a series of drone sightings and airspace violations are fueling concerns over potential Russian aggression. Poland, Ukraine, and NATO have asserted that recent Russian drone incursions into their airspace were deliberate acts, while Denmark has been forced to temporarily shut down airports following numerous unidentified drone sightings.

The incidents began earlier this month when Russian drones breached Polish and Romanian airspace during Russian attacks on Ukraine. Poland scrambled its forces and temporarily closed airports, including Warsaw’s main airport. Romania also deployed jets to intercept a drone that crossed its border.

Estonia has accused Russia of violating its airspace with fighter aircraft on multiple occasions, with a recent incident involving three aircraft deemed “unprecedentedly brazen” by the Foreign Minister.

Denmark is the latest nation to grapple with the drone threat. Airports in Aalborg, Copenhagen, Esbjerg, Sonderborg and Skrydstrup were affected this week, causing flight disruptions and prompting investigations. Defence Minister Troels Lund Poulsen described the situation as a “hybrid attack,” although he stopped short of directly blaming Russia.

NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte confirmed that NATO air defenses were activated in response to the Polish incursion, and the alliance has held consultations under Article 4 of the NATO Treaty. NATO issued a statement condemning Russia’s “escalatory” and “reckless” behavior, holding them fully responsible for these actions.

Ukrainian officials, including Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha and President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, have accused Russia of deliberately escalating the conflict and testing the West’s resolve. Germany’s Defence Minister Boris Pistorius echoed these sentiments, stating it was unlikely the drone incursions were accidental.

Experts differ in their assessment, with some suggesting that GPS jamming and the use of “decoy” drones could contribute to unintentional border crossings.

Moscow has denied any deliberate aggression, accusing NATO and Ukraine of making false accusations to stoke tensions.

Amid the escalating concerns, European countries are considering establishing a “drone wall” to protect against further incursions. Defense ministers are slated to meet on Friday to discuss the initiative, following a call from European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen for such a measure.

United States President Donald Trump, who has been attempting to mediate an end to the war in Ukraine, initially suggested the Polish incursion “could have been a mistake.” However, he later stated that NATO countries should shoot down Russian aircraft entering their airspace.
