**Double Tropical Threat Looms for US East Coast as Humberto Strengthens, New Storm Brews**
**(CNN) –** The Atlantic is churning with tropical activity as Tropical Storm Humberto gains strength and a new system threatens the US East Coast. Humberto, the eighth named storm of the 2025 season, is currently located in the western Atlantic and is forecast to become a Category 2 or 3 hurricane by the weekend. While its eventual path is uncertain, it could potentially impact Bermuda.
More concerning for the US is Invest 94L, a developing area of thunderstorms near the Bahamas. Forecasters predict it will likely become a tropical depression or storm named Imelda by the weekend. The National Hurricane Center gives Invest 94L a high chance of development as it nears the Bahamas.
The forecast, however, is complicated by the potential interaction between Humberto and Invest 94L. The possibilities range from Humberto absorbing the developing system, to a complex interaction between the two, or even Invest 94L making landfall along the East Coast as Imelda. Forecasters emphasize a high degree of uncertainty and low confidence in the forecast track.
In the meantime, Invest 94L is expected to bring heavy rainfall to Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands, with potential for flash flooding and landslides.
Residents in the Bahamas and along the US East Coast are urged to stay informed and monitor forecast updates closely.
While the Atlantic hurricane season is typically slowing down by October, the warmer waters in the Gulf, Caribbean, and western Atlantic mean late-season storms can still pack a punch. While 2025 has been slower than average so far, the potential for powerful late-season storms remains a significant threat.
