Tue Sep 23 15:43:54 UTC 2025: ## Trump Lambasts UN in Scathing Return to General Assembly

**UNITED NATIONS – September 23, 2025** – In his first address to the United Nations General Assembly since returning to the White House, U.S. President Donald Trump launched a scathing attack on the world body, accusing it of failing to maintain peace, encouraging illegal migration, and promoting what he called the “greatest con job ever perpetrated on the world” – climate change concerns.

Trump questioned the very purpose of the UN, derisively remarking that it only “write[s] a really strongly worded letter.” He also complained about broken infrastructure at the UN headquarters, stating “These are the two things I got from the United Nations, a bad escalator and a bad teleprompter.”

Focusing on migration, Trump accused the UN of funding an “assault on Western nations” and declared it was time to end the “failed experiment of open borders.” He singled out London Mayor Sadiq Khan, also, fueling nativist sentiments.

The President touted his efforts to end wars but offered no solutions for the ongoing conflicts in Ukraine and Gaza. He criticized allies for purchasing oil from Russia, while remaining muted on Moscow’s actions. Trump also condemned the recognition of a Palestinian state by Washington’s allies, deeming it a reward to Hamas.

His remarks come as the U.S. has moved to withdraw from the World Health Organization and the U.N. climate pact, curtailing development assistance and imposing sanctions on foreign entities. U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres addressed the summit, warning that U.S. led aid cuts were “wreaking havoc” worldwide. He implored world leaders to choose a “world of laws” over one of “raw power.”

Trump is scheduled to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy for the second time since his summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska last month, a meeting that failed to yield any progress on the conflict. Despite Trump’s claims of brokering a quick resolution, Russia has continued its attacks on Ukraine and increased incursions into NATO member states.

He will also meet with Argentinian President Javier Milei, whose government may receive economic support from the United States.

Prior to Trump’s address, the U.S. Secret Service reported disrupting a telecommunications plot involving a “weaponized farm” of over 100,000 cellphone SIM cards, believed to be connected to nation-state threat actors, capable of disrupting communications around the UN.
