Wed Sep 24 13:17:33 UTC 2025: ## Trump Reverses Course, Now Says Ukraine Can “WIN” War
**New York, NY** – In a surprising shift, former U.S. President Donald Trump now believes Ukraine, with the support of the European Union and NATO, can reclaim all its territory lost to Russia since the beginning of the conflict. This announcement marks a stark contrast to his previous stance suggesting land concessions were necessary for a peaceful resolution.
The change in tone followed a meeting between Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.
“I think Ukraine, with the support of the European Union, is in a position to fight and WIN all of Ukraine back in its original form,” Trump posted on his Truth Social platform. He even touted NATO’s potential involvement, a departure from his past criticisms of the alliance. “With time, patience, and the financial support of Europe and, in particular, NATO, the original Borders from where this War started, is very much an option.”
Trump also derided Russia’s military efforts, labeling them “aimless” and likening the country to a “paper tiger.”
President Zelenskyy expressed his gratitude for Trump’s support, stating in an X post, “I am grateful to President Trump for strong cooperation with the United States. Mr President clearly understands the situation and is well-informed about all aspects of this war.”
The Kremlin, however, dismissed Trump’s remarks, vowing to continue its “special military operation” to achieve its objectives. “We are doing this for both the present and the future of our country. For many generations to come. Therefore, we have no alternative,” said Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov.
This shift represents a significant reversal from Trump’s previous pronouncements on the conflict. Earlier this year, he criticized Zelenskyy for a perceived lack of “gratitude” for US assistance and suggested Ukraine would need to cede territory. Just last month, he floated the idea of “land swapping” to end the war.
Experts are divided on the significance of Trump’s change of heart. Some believe it’s a strategic move to pressure Russian President Vladimir Putin back to the negotiating table. Others suggest it’s simply a reflection of his tendency to echo the views of the most recent person he has spoken with.
“Trump reflects the point of view of the last person he’s spoken to,” said Keir Giles, a Eurasia expert at Chatham House. “Everybody forgets that what matters is not what he says but instead, what he does.”
It remains to be seen whether Trump’s new pronouncements will translate into a concrete shift in U.S. policy.
